Default audio output without HomePods

Is there a reason why only HomePods can be used for the default audio output? Why not any other speakers that support Airplay 2? Such a pain to reselect the speakers every time the Apple TV comes back from sleep.

I have one Apple TV with a HomePod stereo pair and the default audio output works fine. But for another Apple TV I would like to use a Devialet stereo pair.

Well, Apple only supports HomePods and the HomePod Minis in the future. They don't care much about feedback. Just spoke with support for a lengthy time.

I was hoping somebody else found a way to make it work. Potentially make Airplay 2 speakers present themselves as HomePods. Isn't it a basic feature of a home theater setup to have speakers permanently connected to the Apple TV?

Cheers.

my setup is 'default' with Sonos speaker which has airplay 2 support. These are wired and are set to 'static ip'. Which means ATV during startup remembers last connection - Sonos speaker. Then you do not have to go into the control panel and select them every time.
