actually i just did the update for my MacBook air and its taking forever
its stuck in the same screen about 1h now
all i see is the apple logo and the download bar and its not moving at all
i turned off my laptop and turned it on and nothing happened

Disconnect any external devices and plug into charger. Shutdown the computer by whatever means required including the Power Button. Restart the computer in Safe Mode ( choose the method specific for this computer - Intel or M1 ).
The Safe Mode will do a Repair Disk, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and Fonts. This eliminates all third party software from loading and in so doing May or May Not allow the update to finish processing all the changes.
Keep in mind haat an update or upgrade can take up to an hour, more or less, to download, then another 45 minutes, more or less, to install with several automatic restarts. If it hasn't completed within a couple of hours, you might do another clean download.
