my iPhone 12 won't backup to my iMac, it starts but it seems to quit

my iPhone 12 will sync; however, when I click Backup now, it seems to start. The bar across the bottom does not become a progress bar to show the progress of the backup. after about 2 mins, the "iPhone 12" under location on the sidebar disappears. my iPhone 12 will show the twirling arrows when I pull down on the charge lever indicator.

Any thoughts.....

Interesting. Please look this link over from apple and see if it helps. I have never run into this problem with iPhone and mac.
