Updating Mac OS from High Sierra to Big Sur

I tried updating my Macbook Air 2017 from High Sierra to Big Sur, but it has been stuck on the apple logo for a few hours now. What should I do? Thank you!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.13

Shutdown by any means including the Power Button. Disconnect all external devices. Connect to charger. Restart in Safe Mode - Shift key - immediately at startup and hold until Apple Logo appear then release. This may or may not allow the upgrade process to complete hopefully successfully.
