I don’t have a hub device. Just iPhone home app on iPhone 12 ios14.
under the automation tab I can’t do anything. It has no menus just says Apple TV or speaker or iPad can be a hub.
I just want simple time based automation

We’d be happy to help you!
You do need to have one of the devices that you saw listed in Create scenes and automations with the Home app as your home hub currently.
You can use some smart accessories without automation as well.
We’d recommend leaving feedback through Product Feedback for using other devices as home hubs also.
