I only have two backups to choose from one from two days ago and one from 8/20/21 so I am unable to retrieve messages that I need from 3/2020. I pay for a lot of extra icloud storage and have for many years. How can i get these text message?
You cannot unless you have a backup made before they were deleted. And if you use messages in iCloud, then messages are not part of a backup and instead are sync’d in real time with iCloud and all your devices. That also means that deletions with messages in iCloud are permanent.

Check your Mac:
See if these are in the Messages app on your Mac. If you have a Mac with these on them, then try booting it up (with the router powered off, to avoid syncing), and then exporting the messages from the Messages app.
