Helpful, but a small problem, and the reason for my moving up. The Macbook Pro has developed problems since, after being prodded to do so, I attempted to download the next generation of OS after Mojave. That was two years ago and the attempt did permanent damage to the machine. One of the areas affected was Time Machine. So, if I do the trade-in, it supposedly will be moved to an Apple inhouse hard drive, then sent to the new Mini. More and more, I am inclined to keep the MacBook Pro, then arrange to sell it myself, wiped.
Unless, when I go back to do the swap and get a workable offer.
Thanks for your help. My head is now clear as to what my options are. And, I think you are correct regarding staff & COVID. It was obvious that she was a new hire by the way she kept checking with a Supervisor. Take care, Arye
I am in the middle of a transaction at the San Francisco, the 'Specialist (more like a salesperson hungry for the commission, I suspect). When I brought up the subject of the trade-in which I had with me, she focused on selling me the replacement first. Favoring the most expensive device in the store. Once I found what I wanted, we made the sale. It is supposed to arrive in two days. She then dismissed the machine I wanted to trade for credit as 'something we're really not interested in because at 2015, it is too old'. Bait and switch, no doubt. So, once the new Mini M1, arrives, I am to book an appointment to swap whats on my current one by leaving both the new and the 2015 for two more days. Think I've been had. Which is a very rare experience after dealing with Apple since 1985. I am uncomfortable leaving my old machine Am a bit uncomfortable due to lack of trust, and once that is broken the mind begins to conjure problems that may not exist. What I've done is go to Craig's List to see what similar models are posted for. So, if she doesn't want to do the trade-in, I will keep the 2015 for myself to deal with later... So, any thoughts? Anything I am missing?
Thanks
The only reason to leave it I can think of would be because of COVID possibly - short staffed so they need time to do it. Personally I would not leave my machine anywhere without either making all files/info encrypted or delete it (which means the contents can't be accessed). If you have a current backup on an external drive, it is super easy to do it yourself at home and that is what I would do. You simply turn on the new one and as soon as you get the screen with "do you want to transfer files, etc, etc", attach the external drive and go for it.
When you deal DIRECTLY with Apple, they have a policy to avoid pressuring you into a purchase you will not be happy with.
You have 14 days from receipt to return your new purchases for full value refund or exchange.
This time, it was an anomaly. I've been using Apple computers since 1985. This was the only time I was pressured. She was a new hire in this COVID era. I will treat it as such. But I will try to discuss my experience with a Store Manager. Hopefully, he/she will show her the Apple Righteous path. (Incidentally, I worked on a PBS television show named 'The Righteous Apples', and I just made myself laugh.
Thanks,
Arye

Apple Store employees aren't paid on commission. As suggested, possibly new.
You enter the info online in the trade-in window, and answer the "condition" questions as well, and they give you a pretty firm quote.
PS: All took place at the S.F Main Apple Store at Union Square.
