iphone pairing / updating not working

I unpaired my apple watch by erasing it through my watch itself because i didn’t have the phone on me and now i’m trying to repair it with my new phone and it won’t pair because it needs to update but i can’t update it because it says i’m not connected to wifi even tho i am. how do i fix that?
