Why has my Apple TV displaying in monochrome and how do I fix it?

This sounds like a HDMI cable or HDMI cable connection failure. Please try reseating the existing cable and if that will not work a new HDMI cable. However before resorting to either try unplugging the Apple TV from it's power source for 2-3 minutes and then plug in and retest.
