Linux Live boot on M1 MBP 2020

Hi,

I have been trying to boot my M1 MBP 2020 from Linux Live USB. I am writing RedHat exam and there's a requirement to boot the Linux OS from live USB.


I am able to do this on MBP 2012 without any issue but the same Linux Live USB is not working on my M1 2020 MBP. After pressing and holding the power button until i see the startup options and I only see is that, Mac internal disk. I have tried few USB but issue is still the same.


Is USB boot supported on M1 chip? May be I am missing something, can somebody on forum please help me solving this issue.

Linux support for the M1 Macs is currently experimental and not available with most Linux distributions. Here is the most recent article I've seen on the status of Linux on an M1 Mac:

FYI, installing Linux into a VM is the best option if you are using any USB-C Mac since there are a lot of gaps in hardware support with the various USB-C Macs:

Linux does work perfectly fine on bare metal on most 2007 to 2015 Macs.
