I am using the camera adapter with the lightning power plug while plugged and still getting error even after restarting. It works fine on an identical iPad.

You’ll then want to contact Apple Support, as the Camera Kit likely has an Apple warranty.

It gives me the error without anything plugged in. I’m using this with a Casio keyboard with it’s own power source so I’m not sure why I would need a powered USB hub. It worked fine for 3 1/2 weeks. I had a lightning power adapter plugged into it.
I am getting this error on both iPads now. It was working for at least 2 weeks. I am using it as MIDI adapter fora Casio keyboard.
Again I have external power connected and the iPads show as charging. Why did this this just stop working?
Whatever adapter is connected to the USB is (now) drawing more power than what little power the iPad has available on the USB. You might be able to add and use a (powered) USB hub here to increase the amount of power available on the USB.
