Can't connect iPhone

So my backups, etc. are all done on iCloud. However, I still like to store my photos locally. Every time I connect an iPhone - have tried mine and my wife's - Photos opens and flickers nonstop. The screen is not open long enough to get into the settings to stop auto opening. I DO NOT want to uninstall Photos - too concerned about losing pictures / videos. Photos works fine otherwise.

Running Big Sur 11.5.2. Checked for updates. Have restarted iMac (27 inch mid 2015). Never had any issues like this prior. iPhones tried include a 12 and an XR, but up to date for OS. Please help!!

Hi

That is normally a result of commuications problems on the USB.

Can you try a different USB cable (Preferably apple original). It is also worth tyring different USB ports - and directly connected to your mac (not via a hub )
