Apple TV+ not working on my TV

I can watch Netflix on my TV with the Apple TV remote. I purchased a new iPod Touch and it came with Apple TV plus for a year, but it won’t play Ted Lasso. Can’t remember the exact error message, but it says it encountered a problem. Is my TV too old?

Do you have the Apple TV box? If so, which model? Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support


Apple TV+ is compatible with Apple TV (3rd generation or later), with up-to-date software.

If you have the modern Apple TV app on there, with Apple TV+ content presented, then that should play.


That leaves out Apple TV (2nd generation), even for AirPlay. That would be too old.

Looked at the accompanying pictures, and I have the 3rd gen Apple TV.

The Apple TV (2nd generation) and Apple TV (3rd generation) have the same casing. Apple TV (2nd generation) would have “A1378” in small print on the bottom of the device, and also mentioned in Settings﹥General﹥About﹥Model﹥. Apple TV (3rd generation) would have “A1427” or “A1469” on the bottom of the device, and also mentioned in Settings﹥General﹥About﹥Model﹥. Please verify.


I checked under Software Updates and mine is up to date.

So what version is it?

Apple TV (2nd generation) can be updated to software version 6.2.1.

Apple TV (3rd generation) can be updated to software version 7.7.

You’re right. Those two models do have the same casing. I checked…after looking for a magnifying glass and a flashlight!…and I have model A1378. So it looks like I have Apple TV 2nd gen, and need to use Airplay.


I tried again last evening to get AirPlay to work, but no luck.


Also tried again just now. Screen mirroring works. I can see myself typing this on the TV screen.


I pressed the Apple TV+ app on my iPad and Choose Ted Lasso, Play First Episode.


Got a quick message that “The video is now playing on Apple TV” and then immediately the message switched to:

“There is a problem loading this content.”


So I then clicked on another video and got the same error message.


What other info do you need to help me to get this to work?
