How to use own NAS as a storage for iCloud?

Hello,

I’ve just bought my own NAS storage, and at the same time my Apple iCloud storage is almost full. So instead buying new Apple iCloud storage plan, I wonder if I can use my own NAS?

My NAS has it’s own cloud services but actually I don’t like it. I love Apple iCloud but the only problem is to little storage.

For any help great thanks in advance.

Best Regards

Hello Missy5937,

great thanks for your answer. But I don’t mean Time Machine. I’ve already have it and I use it.

The issue is I still want to use Apple iCloud to syncronize my OSX Photos, iMovie, Keychain, Contacts… just everything. In simply words I want to use Apple iCloud not Synology Cloud or any other cloud services. The only thing I want to change is the storage from Apple plan (paying monthly) to my own, free and huge drives on my NAS.

Is that possible?

For me it looks like Apple iCloud works only with Apple servers and to use it you need to use Apple storage monthly payment plan, where the biggest storage plan is 2TB, but maybe I am wrong that’s why I am asking.

I have on my NAS much more than Apple biggest plan 2TB, and on my NAS it is free for me to use, so I would like to use it instead paying Apple monthly. But I want to keep all the rest of Apple iCloud features.

Hello pajczukin,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're looking for information on how to use NAS storage for your backups. The article we found referencing this option is, Back up your Mac with Time Machine. Depending on what device you're using, it does appear this is an option, at least for backing up a Mac. Check out the posted article for full details.

Best regards.
