Thanks for your post to Apple Support Communities. We understand you aren't able to play a purchased item on your iPad and are receiving an error. There may be a few reasons for this.
If you are trying to watch something in the Apple TV app on the iPad, start with these steps:
If you can't watch or stream movies and TV shows in the Apple TV app
If the movie was purchased/rented from another service, check with that provider's support. We'd also recommend these other steps to get it working:
- Restart the iPad
- Test the connection with another network
- Restart your router
- Close the app being used to view the movie (Quit and reopen an app on iPad)
- Check for app updates
- Delete, then reinstall the app
