How can I reinstall an App icon that was deleted from home screen in error? when I find the App in the App store it only opens the app. There is no option to place the shortcut icon on the home screen with all my other apps.

If the only option is "Open" that indicates that the app is still on the iPhone. Go to the App Library (swipe left past your last home screen). From there you can touch and hold an app and slide it left back to the home screen.
