I am unable to download newer version of MacOS, currently running MacOS 10.12.6

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.12

we would need to know what model year iMac you have to give you a specific answer to your question. however, you can find which is the most recent macOS compatible with your specific iMac as well as be able to download that macOS by going to the links below.
