My keyboard is not matching symbols with my laptop

So, just as the title says, it started happening like 1 month ago. I'm pretty sure my input sources are correct. It seems it is some sort of bug. My keyboard works correctly when I connect an external keyboard.

As you can see, the software is not detecting the key that is on the left of 'z'. Even if the input is correct...

I'm using MacOs Mojave.

Thank you!

Ok, so installing Karabiner Elements forced my mac to go through the keyboard identification setup but for the internal mac keyboard, and that forced to recognize the correct layout. Now everything works as normal! Thank you for your help

If all you do is plug in an external KB & it works then the likely hood is a hardware problem, but...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?
