open your finder's applications folder. hover over the word "applications" in the toolbar until the blue folder appears to the left of the word "applications", then drag and drop the folder icon onto the dock.

i found the answer to the "folder" issue. place the "application stack" on your dock.
then "control click" the icon and then choose "display as "folder"
and you get this:
Look in Applications folder and Drag and Drop it to Dock. It will only create and Alias for the Application in the Dock
Choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu, open the internal drive, and drag it back.

tried that...no luck?
Hi, I've done exactly that...''dragged the blue folder icon''....yet still no application icon in the dock?
internal drive?...dont quite understand?
when you "dropped" it, was it to the right of the thin vertical line?
Hi, I just dropped it to the right of that line (right next to the recycle bin)...and it stays there...but why can't I get it back to the original position also with the original icon?
IDK. i use the F4 key on my keyboard to get to my applications instead of having the "applications" folder on my dock. i'm sure, however, that someone else will know the answer to those 2 questions.
Yeah the application folder will only lodge to the right of that line...but Thank You sooooo much...and, yes Im sure there are many other experts out there...
you're welcome. :)
