Can I upgrade to Big Sur via Remote Desktop?

Hello all. I have a Mac Mini running 10.15.7, which I would like to upgrade to Big Sur. This Mac is run in a headless configuration, and I access it via Remote Desktop.

Does the upgrade process complete without any user input, up until the point where it will reconnect via Remote Desktop? I know it does a reboot during the process, and during part of that process it will be inaccessible. I just want to make sure I will be able to log back in via Remote Desktop before it requires any further user input.

Does anyone have any insight into this? Thanks in advance for any replies!

The installation of Big Sur on a compatible Intel Mac will run to completion once it is given the administrator password in an intial prompt, and restart is selected. On an M1 Mac, however, the first sentence is partly true, but in the installation process, it will eventually reboot to a user login screen, where the administrator password input is required, and then installation resumes. This will ruin your day remotely.

Limited Knowledge if Remote Access.

From my experience - the initiating of the Download of Big Sur will require the User to Manually Input computer password and once is is fully downloaded and before the actually Installation process is permitted to begin , again , Manually Inputting of the computer password is required. Kind of falling in line with the same type of process for iOS updates .

Thanks for your reply! Yes, I would expect to have to enter the password at the beginning of the process. At that point, I will still have access via Remote Desktop. My concern is, during the installation process (after reboot, but before the desktop appears) will there need to be any user input ... I'm pretty sure it doesn't, I just wanted to make sure since I might not have physical access to the computer while I'm doing the update.

FWIW, I had done updates and upgrades on my 2010 Mini when connected via Screen Sharing until it was no longer eligible for any updates or upgrades.

The only downside was that I only had the spinning wheel and "Connecting" displayed until the log in screen or any other "new OS configuration" questions appeared.

whether it still works like that I can't say.
