Trying to pair an Apple Watch series 5 to a new phone. I lost my old iPhone which was paired to my Apple Watch. Followed the procedures to erase all contents on watch, after confirming erase all data the watch still asks for passcode. Any advice is much appreciated

You have to remove your watch from the old phone first;
From a web browser,sign in to iCloud.com with your Apple ID.
Go to Find iPhone.
Click All Devices at the top of the screen.
Click your Apple Watch.
Click Erase [device]. Select Next until the device is erased.
Click Remove from Account.
Thanks for replying- I’ve already Been through the two links you sent me. You need the old phone to pair the new one and It was lost/cancelled
I have tried to align my Apple Watch with the view finder in the Watch app on my phone - nothing happens
