Macbook Air 2017 lagging in clamshell mode

Hello, forum,

I'll start with some specs of what I'm using: I use a 13-inch 2017 Macbook Air, and I have it on a stand closed and in clamshell mode. I have it attached to a Sceptre monitor (E205W-16003RTT), a Keychron K4 keyboard, and a Steelseries Rival 310 mouse. I also have a Blue Snowball mic and an Aluratek webcam attached. I don't know how helpful that is, but I hope it provides a little background.

Anyways, I switched to this setup and it was working without a hitch. I could run a Discord call or Zoom meeting perfectly, whatever games I can run on a mac were working fine, all was good. However, in the past couple of days, the setup has been really laggy. Typing this post has been a bit of a pain, and on calls, my video freezes and I can't be understood.

I've tried changing resolutions and unplugging a couple of devices, but the problem persists. So now I turn to the forums for help. Any advice is appreciated, thank you, and have a nice day!
