How do I force quit apps when using the new siri remote in click only mode?

I prefer the click only mode on the new Siri remote (which is an improvement over the tiny and slippery original remote). Now that I have a power button to use, I have enabled CEC control, which seems to work. However, the Apple TV wakes the TV (a Sony Bravia of less than a year old) after about 5 minutes no matter which way I turn it off (including by using the TV remote control power button).

I've read on here that force quitting apps helps, but I can't figure out how to force quit in click only mode. Any suggestions?
