How to begin using garage band?

Ultimately, I want to get a YouTube channel for my piano music.

Any information on either/both would be much appreciated.

Midi Out is only needed if you are going to record the notes on the computer and then play them back on your piano.

Garageband is designed to record the midi notes and then play them back using the internal software instruments on the Mac. The keyboard/piano is only used to send the midi notes to the computer.

You can get an audio interface and plug the audio out of your piano into the audio interface and record the audio as a "real instrument".

The other option - the only option for a real piano - is to get a microphone and record your piano with that directly into the Mac.

If you are planning to use your keyboards sounds, how were you planning to record them?

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

I have a baby grand piano - also a (very old model...) Roland MP300. I'm thinking of getting a new Keyboard... any particular model that you'd recommend? 🤔

So, if Garageband doesn't have Midi Out... maybe that's not the direction for me to go. I was interested in learning about Garageband... but... what I - really - want to figure out how to do is to record my piano (or keyboard if I get a new one...).music onto a YouTube channel. Do you have any suggestions as to how to go about this.? I have an iMac....

so.... If I get a new keyboard.... is there some way to plug in (??) some kind of cable... from my keyboard to the iMac... to record and save that way... or??? ( clearly I'm a newbie ...😀 and don't have a clue..... I'd welcome any suggestions or info..... Thanks

Hi, This is all new and really great information - thanks!

My baby grand piano has such a great sound, so rather than to purchase a new digital keyboard, I'd actually prefer to play from my piano and record, with a mic - but didn't know how to get it onto the iMac..... What I mean is... though my house is quiet and now specific sounds.... would it be a smooth, clean recording... if I had the piano and iMac next to each other with a mic to record from the piano into the mac? I guess since there's no way to plug anything in to my baby grand piano - that using a mic, next to my iMac is the only option.... is that accurate? Any ideas on mics.... there's only a ton from which to choose :).... I"ll check some out and read the reviews... but wonder if you've had occasion to use any particular type.
