Big sur OS downloaded on HD and now occupying a larger space

While updating my Mac, the system downloaded Big Sur OS. Unfortunately it occupied a lot of space and the update didn't go through. The update demanded another 17GB free space which I don't have on my MAC. Now the Big Sur is somewhere installed on my HD and is using 12 GB space and my free space is reduced from 17GB to 5 GB .

Does anyone know how to delete the uninstalled Big Sur Mac OS from HD?

My mac has Catalina and its functioning well.

Look in your Applications folder for Install macOS Big Sur.app.

Move it to an external drive for safe keeping and delete the one in

the Applications folder.

macOS Big Sur requires at least 35.5GBS of free space on your mac to install.

You need to free up space on your mac, copy files you do not need on a daily

basis to an external drive. Movies, Image and Music tend to take up the most space.

Try to keep at least 20GBs free at any time on your mac, the mac needs free space to do its own

housekeeping. If you run the mac very low on free space you run the risk of it locking up

and becoming unusable.
