Will an iPhone bought in Qatar have Facetime when connected to a European network using a European SIM??

Hi there,

I live in Greece and I am traveling to Qatar this month. I am thinking of getting an iPhone 12 Pro from Qatar using an offer that I get through the Qatari based company that I work for.

My question is simple. Will this iPhone's Facetime work when I travel back in Greece and insert my Greek SIM card? Are there still restrictions with Facetime for iPhones bought in the Middle East?

Is there any way I can check that it is not a UAE phone from the outside of the box before I buy it? Does the box have a code or something?

1. Yes.

2. Starting from iOS 13.6, it's only disabled when the Country in Settings is the United Arab Emirates.

Note that you'll likely be denied warranty service on that iPhone outside Qatar.

That doesn't matter on units running 13.6 or newer; for older ones, the letters after the slash in the model number will be AB, AE, or UR if it's a FaceTime-restricted model.

Oh, OK. That makes perfect sense. So since the iPhone 12 Pro is initially shipped with iOS 14.1 then I won't have any problem.
