I don't understand. The WhatsApp app is free. You can just download it from the App Store. Should not be asking for a payment.

If WhatsApp is asking you for a payment there is nothing Apple can do about it.
Hello ~ You still need a card on file unless you go through a certain setup with your Apple ID to download free apps.
