iPhone message app is gone
I can’t find my messaging app on my phone.

The messages app cannot be deleted from the iPhone and therefore it is still on your iPhone. You did not tell us which iPhone you are using and which iOS version that you are using.
If you are using iOS version 14.x.x then the Messages app is still in the App Library which is the last home screen on your iPhone when you continue to SWIPE LEFT until you reach it. Find the Messages app in the App Library, then TOUCH and HOLD the Messages app and then drag it out of there and on to your favorite spot of the Home Screen.
If you are not using iOS version 14.x.x then open Settings ➔ General ➔ Reset ➔ Reset Home Screen Layout. Your Messages and other apps icons will be returned to their default locations.
