How do I save a transparent image from a browser?

I'm familiar with copying images from a browser using "save as" and have no problem with this. How do I do this for transparent images though (preserving their transparency). When I save these images they just have the checkerboard as park of the image. I save these as png & it makes no difference. Is this a setting on my Mac - or what am I missing? There are several similar threads but nothing I could find exactly on this.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.4

Control click on the image while in your browser window, to reveal the contextual menu>Save Image...

you have many options here:

Depending on the website, this function can be blocked for obvious reasons.
