Why does Apple publish instructions to remove an authorization lock by removing the phone through an apple.com acct if it does not work? Now the original owner must get involved even more than removing the device from their account.

That is exactly what we did to remove device from original owners account. Now Apple support tells me that is not sufficient. The original owner must give me his apple password or present the original receipt from years ago to a company rep. I guessing they just want me to buy another I Phone instead.
