Magic Trackpad cursor not moving

Dear All,

I have read few treads that deal with similar issue, i follow all the instructions and more from the other boards and i still did not manage to make my trackpad working with my iMac which i bought last year in May.
First of all except the other users that wrote on other discussions i never had USBOverdrive installed on my Mac or any other software used for peripheral devices.

Here is what i did:

a) as soon as i took the Trackpad form the box i power it on. My mac did not see anything at this point.

b) i wen to the Bluetooth settings and asked it to search for devices, very fast it found my Trackpad and installed it. As soon as this was done a nice icon showed up in System preferences then i did the system update (it fond trackpad update) and i hoped i nailed it down but Noooo!!! the cursor was not moving. I rebooted 2 times but still nothing.

c) i tried to take the batteries out put them back turn of and on.. Nothing the only thing that my trackpad is able to do correctly is to click 😟

d) Ok i said... time to read more on forums..did some research and i seen people talking about USB-Overdrive. at first i did not know where to look for that to see if it is there or not and in the end i figured out it is a 3-rd party software.

e) i have installed it just to remove it afterwards (hoping that maybe this will correct the issue). off course i did the reboot after the install and after uninstall (as the system requested) but my trackpad remains dead (just the clicking most wanted capability in place).

f)i tried to remove my trackpad form bluetooth "-" and reboot my Mac. After it came up i turned on/off/on my trackpad few times but still the device was not recognized. Since now i had the nice Trackpad icon under System i clicked on that and my trackpad was recognised but again i cannot move the cursor. Stupid Device...

g)i tried to install the combo for 10.6.4 (i already had 10.6.4) but i was thinking that i probably have an issue that the combo will fix. but again i was not correct because after the instalation and after i followed a,b,c,d,f again the trackpad is still not tracking anything.

h)i tried to look into the logs (kernel and system) and here is what i see when i add my trackpad (after kicking the trackpad icon)

I kind of run out of any ideas here and i would really appreciate some help.

Thanks,
George

For some strange voodoo I managed to get mine working. I read somewhere here about erratic cursor movement due to a second monitor, so I unplugged mine, removed Magic Trackpad from Bluetooth, used the Trackpad preference pane to add it back, and it works! Then I plugged my second monitor back in and it still works! I hope this survives a restart. And I hope this helps someone else out there.

WOLFRO, if it helps at all, I have the EXACT same thing here: an iMac (two years old), a Magic Trackpad (two days old) and no hope left. I did everything by the book (well, booklet) that came with the MTP. I ran Software Update, paired the device in Bluetooth, ran Software Update again, restarted, unpaired, paired again...

The net result is always that the device is paired and the CLICKER works. Nothing else. No cursor movement, let alone gestures. My hacker skills are not good enough to determine, which of my own previous installations should be removed or why. According to web reviews, the thing ought to run on an unmodified Snow Leopard 10.6.4 with the newest updates. Must I now really re-install the whole system for one lousy trackpad? This is alarmingly starting to sound like Windows...

I tried to shut down WiFi, with no luck.
As Steve Jobs could put it in his next keynote: IT JUST DOESN´T WORK 😟

I had the exact same thing happen too. I tried pairing my MTP with both the older Mac Mini for which I'd purchased it; and also a newer Macbook - just to test it.

No difference on either Mac. Both were running the latest updates for 10.6.4 - with the Trackpad setttings in System Preferences. In both cases it paired fine - but did not work, except for the clicker switch.

I took it back to the Apple Store; and they tested it there - and it turned out to be faulty. They had no others so I just returned it; and will try another one later.

So it could be a hardware fault of some kind too.

Hey Judilpho did you have any luck re-installing snow leopard? I have an imac as well (two years old), tried all the above comments but still not working. I can pair the trackpad successfully but it only the clicker works, then at times my cursor goes crazy when I have both the mighty mouse and trackpad connected. Is it to do with bluetooth connections or hardware faults?
will apple answer our questions???

I have exactly the same problem with my Magic Trackpad.
At the moment i can only use it as a big Mouse Button using my mighty mouse to move. At work i tried it on two different Macs (iMac and MacBook Pro) showing exactly the same manner - No movement but click is working.

I am installing a fresh copy of snow leopard right now and afterwards i will do the combo update to 10.6.4. If this is not working i will return my Trackpad, because then it is definitely a hardware fault!

There are no other Bluetooth devices connected to my mini...

Hi all. I have the same problem but thought it was down to my bluetooth setup. My Mac Pro is one of the old ones without bluetooth built in, so when I bought the trackpad I bought the Belkin mini bluetooth USB which is for sale in Apple Store. Basically it all works well if I plug in the Belkin then pair/connect the pad. When I put the computer to sleep though, and then turn it back on, the connection is lost and it won't find it again until I unplug the Belkin, then plug it in again. Also the pad has to be switched off then on again. Then it finds the pad fine, and connects. But to do those steps everytime I wake the computer up, using my old wired mouse of course, defeats the point of the trackpad.
So maybe the problem isn't with the Belkin like I thought but a deeper issue. Anyone else using a usb bluetooth setup, or have you all got built-in bluetooth?
Take it easy
