Third party AV is not recommended— it typically does nothing but add issues to the macOS and competes directly with Apples own built in security:

No. Macs do not need any anti-virus apps, cleaning apps, or third party security apps. These types of apps usually cause more problems than they solve plus they impact system performance. Just practice normal safe computing habits and everything will usually be fine.
There are no known Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS.
There are Malware and Adware that does affect macOS and are often times downloaded as part of an Application from Third Party UnTrusted Site and get installed along with the Application. And for that - the solutions have been provided in previous posting.
