iCloud Bookmarks and Microsoft Edge

Hello,

For a long time, I've tried to sync the iCloud Bookmarks of my iPhone/Mac to Microsoft Edge. When the chromium version of Edge was released, there was a workaround where if you installed Google Chrome, and installed the iCloud extension on the Edge explorer too, if you selected the Chrome browser to sync the bookmarks, it would sync them too with Edge. However, when I did that, my bookmarks were messed and I wasn't happy with the result.

The good news are that earlier today I installed the iCloud Password extension to Edge, everything is working flawlessly. My surprise was that after installing the iCloud Bookmarks extension too, just to check whether if the new iCloud for Windows app natively supports Microsoft Edge, all my bookmarks are synchronized too, and they update in real time just like they work in Safari, WITHOUT installing Google Chrome or forcing them to sync with IExplorer. Check the attached captures!

Most likely this is because of how the iCloud Password + iCloud Bookmarks extension work together?

Anyway, hope this is useful for some people since it has been a thread for many years, and I'm really happy to have found out how it currently works (flawlessly).

Just wanted to say thank you for this - with a bit of fiddling around this worked for me too. I use Safari on my iPhone and on my Mac at home, but Edge chromium at work, and have been looking for a solution that syncs my bookmarks without using a 3rd party subscription app - so this finally works well.

So just to clarify the steps I used for those who may still be confused:

  1. Ensure you are syncing your Safari bookmarks on iCloud (on Mac go into Settings > Apple ID > iCloud and tick Safari.)
  2. Turn OFF Edge Favourites Syncing in settings, and clear all of your bookmarks from Edge (you can save a backup on desktop incase it doesn't work) .
  3. Install on your PC the latest Apple iCloud App from the Windows Store
  4. On the iCloud App - next to Passwords - click Install Microsoft Edge Password extension. This will take you to the EDGE extension store to install this. Install the extension in Edge. Go back to the iCloud App and click Apply.
  5. Then go to the CHROME Extension store in your Edge browser and install the iCloud Bookmarks extension in EDGE (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions) search for iCloud Bookmarks & install.)

Your Safari bookmarks should be syncing on Edge.
