I cannot quit Hmy mail. Tried to shut down and get message Quit Mail. How do I fix this?

I cannot Quit my mail. Logged onto Mac and Mail icon shows "on" but can't read any mail. Tried to quit and failed. Tried to shutdown and message states Mail interfering with Shutdown/ Restart. How do I fix this?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.5

Go to the  menu and select Force Quit… from the options presented. In the Force Quit window select Mail and click on the Force Quit button:

Reboot and try Mail again.

Have you tried terminating it using the Activity Monitor
