I’ve lost my iPhone 11 at the bottom of a deep cold lake - irretrievable

I dropped my phone in the lake at the cottage. Attempts to retrieve it have failed. I am about 11 months into a 2 year agreement with Costco. A friend said to check with Apple first as the Apple Care limited warranty is on all products for a year? How should I proceed?
