I can't read any data CD files on my Superdrive, though in System Info, it's recognized. It even displays the title of the data CD and how much data is on it. Just cant get it to show up on my desktop to access the CDs.

Boot into Safe Mode according to Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.
NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;
• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)
• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
• Disables user-installed fonts
• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files
The instructions for the USB SuperDrive say it must be connected directly to the computer and not through a hub. Is that how you are set up? More tips here:

In the Finder, go to the menu Finder > Preferences > General
and check the box to show CDs on the desktop:
