I’m trying to pair my watch with the phone. But the phone says I need to update the phone software. When I go to software update, it say my phone is up to date. Please assist.

Chances are the the watch requires iOS 13 or later that the iPhone 6 is incapable of running. You need at least an iPhone 6s. An iPhone 6 can only run up to iOS 12 (which by your tag I assume is what you have). What series/model watch do you have?

An iphone 6 can only pair with a watch that is running WatchOS5 or lower.
