No. That will not work. There are considerable amount of size and functional differences between the iPad Pro 12.9-inch Second Generation and the Third Generation. Look at the size difference alone (below):
12.9-inch iPad Pro 2 (Wi-Fi + cellular model): 12 x 8.68 x 0.27 in and 1.53 pounds
12.9-inch iPad Pro 3 (Wi-Fi + cellular model): 11.04 x 8.46 x 0.23 in and 1.4 pounds
The third generation iPad Pro is smaller in overall size.
