Transfer IPhone Contacts to my Macbook

I am trying to sync my contacts from my iPhone to my Macbook.

I have followed the steps on the Apple Support Page but no contacts transferred over after following the steps.

I have updated both my iPhone and my MacBook to the latest IOS update.

Also, I have tried to message people from my Macbook and my contacts receive my messages but through my Apple ID email address not my mobile number.. is there a way to change that?

Are you syncing Contacts using iCloud? Try going to iCloud.com using a computer browser to see if the items are there and whether they are from the device or the computer. That should show whether the device or the computer isn't syncing. If the computer, try going to System Preferences/iCloud (Apple ID if you are using Catalina or later) and stop Contacts syncing. Wait a couple of minutes, then recheck syncing. If the device, go to Settings/Your Name/iCloud and do the above. As a last resort, you can also try signing out of iCloud and then sign in again.

For Messages, go to Messages/Preferences/Accounts and change Start new conversations from to your phone number.
