Using iMessage without any Apple ID

Is it possible to use iMessage between two iPhones on which Apple ID is not signed in ?

Suppose following conditions:

1, There are two iPhones and they both have SIM installed so they have a telephone number.

2, Both iPhones have never signed in with any Apple IDs.

3, Both iPhones have “iMessage turned on” on Settings > Messages.

Under these conditions can both iPhones communicate with each other by iMessage instead of SMS using their telephone number?

My understanding is that the only requirement using iMessage between two iPhones with there telephone numbers is turning on iMessage on Settings > Messages.

So I have understood signing in to the iPhone with Apple ID is not needed.

I found the following pages and no Apple ID is mentioned there.

So came down to the above understanding.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207006

https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/set-up-messages-iph3d039b67/ios

Is my understanding correct or not ?

Hello Kiyo9999,

We see you're looking to use iMessage between two devices without using an Apple ID. We'll be happy to provide information.

An Apple ID is not needed to use iMessage. As long as you have an active phone number and you're connected to a Wi-Fi or a cellular connection, you'll be able to use iMessage on both devices. We hope this answers your question.
