There are no indicators on the remote to show it is charging. You will need to read the charge level on the screen for the Apple TV: Settings﹥Remotes and Devices﹥Remote﹥. The battery icon is indicative for the charge level (similar to iPhone/​iPad/​notebook). Select that once more for a numerical value (percentage).
