It's normal for the phone to heat up whenever your phone is doing something intensive like updating or gaming. It's nothing to worry about. It will cool down. I play several games on my phone and they make my phone get pretty warm as well. Restarting your phone is not the answer, though it never hurts to restart it now and then. I mean, yes, after going through a restart, your phone should be cooler, but only because it wasn't doing anything super-intensive while booting up.

...And as you haven't mentioned already trying this, Apple's iPhone User Guide says: "If your iPhone isn’t working right, try restarting it.":

complete baloney that its normal - apple just recommends this answer so it doesnt have to take responsibility for its fimrware probs - not normal. also there are people that cant think and so post what apple wants to hear.
Hey, this is a support forum. If you're disgruntled with Apple, take it up with them properly and privately. It's perfectly normal for a phone to get warm when it's doing something CPU/GPU intensive. I've owned and used iPhones for a very long time and I posted an honest answer. You see, my problem with you at this moment is that your comment is an attack on my integrity as a person, and quite frankly, you don't know me at all, let alone well enough to be an authority on my integrity, so kindly go vent your frustration elsewhere - and take your personal attacks with you.
I'm sorry, I didn't notice your response. You probably left it when I was having email issues. Anyway, warm is one thing, but if it was so hot that you couldn't hold it to turn it off, no, that is not normal. If it was that bad, I'd take it to Apple and let them run a diagnostic on your phone.
Hey cool down Chakthi - clearly the OP mentioned that they were finding this problem more/less in general, not during a GPU intensive task, so that's why I was bewildered by your response. Also the user said really hot and really warm not warm. So next time read the OP and other's posts before responding. When you make up incorrect responses like you have it let's Apple get away from its greatness.
Since the last 2 ios15 updates, the iPhone 12 Pro Max gets very hot and I don’t do any gaming (not a gamer) on my phone, it happens while reading email. Hopefully Apple will look into this, it doesn’t seem right.
It got that warm that i noticed how hot it was in my pocket i had to take it out of my pocket, reboot was the only thing once i could touch it
Mine gets really hot too. I don't play on it too much, mostly calls. It gets hot and drops the call.
I have and it doesn't make a difference, will still get hot.
