How to delete a person from list

I had previously sent an iMessage to a couple I knew who are no longer together. Every time I start a new text both names show up. I don’t want to accidentally use this “group”. How do I get rid of this without deleting or blocking either name.

Hello Can-not-find-the-answer,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. We understand that you are wanting to send a text to an individual person that is in a group text with another person without sending it to that group text. We would love to provide you support on this.

The resource that you used to create this post is a great resource, however it is missing important information that will be very helpful for your particular situation, but no worries we have you covered.

There are a couple of ways that you can accomplish this with out deleting the contact itself.

  1. If the phone numbers are saved in contacts on your iPad then you can delete the entire group conversation and when you compose a new message and type that persons name, then you will be able to send a message to them only. To delete a conversation:

-Open the messages app

-Scroll to find the desired conversation

-Once located do not click to open it, instead swipe left on the conversation and select delete option(trash can)

-Tap delete

2. You can remove an individual from a group text if all devices included in the group text are Apple devices. To delete an individual follow this resource: Add and remove people in group text messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

***Please note that if you delete an individual from a conversation they will be notified.

Thank you for allowing us to support you.

Have an awesome and productive day!
