At times there may be no difference which is why it would have been nice if you had described what problems you are having with your equipment. Typically though, a passcode is what you enter to open a mobile device and a password is what you use to log into your Apple Account. Still, you can have a alphanumeric passcode which turns it essentially into a password.


Read the Apple Support document about what to do "If you forgot the passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is disabled". Click here then select your device type if necessary --> http://support.apple.com/HT204306 - Also has links for what to do for an iPad or an iPod touch.
