Need to update my 2009 Apple monitor to receive security updates

I have an iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009). Surely I can download the latest operating system onto this computer?

I tried the links here https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT211683 Is High Sierra the latest OS I can get?

Laughably, when I click the links under "Download macOS using Safari on your Mac", it says "To use the Mac App Store, you need Mac OS 10.6.6 or greater. For more information, please click here." I need to update my operating system before I can update my operating system?? But firstly, it says I have Yosemite 10.10.5 - isn't that higher than 10.6.6 so why can't I download the Mac App Store?

Are there a Linux operating system I can use instead if Apple, in its corporate greed, has decided to send its earlier models to the landfill?

Is the Mac doing what you need satisfactorily at the present time? If so then don't worry about upgrading the system and use it as is.

And rkaufmann87 was wrong. You model iMad is considered obsolete by Apple.

Your model is the equivalent of the Model A Ford. How many Ford dealers do you know who carry parts for a Model A?

I would not throw away a perfectly good computer just because the manufacturer is too thirsty for cash to provide software updates.

As I said, the "How to get old versions of macOS" article does not help because I don't have Mac App Store. How might I download the Mac App Store?

Agreed, I did make an error. The last version of Mac OS a 2013 will run is 10.15.7, my apologies I was working on multiple projects and got them a bit confused.

The last version of Mac OS a late 2013 iMac will run is 10.13.6, you can get it at How to get old versions of macOS. If you need a later version of Mac OS, then it is time to buy a newer Mac. Please remember your Mac has been considered vintage for many years now and does not have the hardware to support newer versions of Mac OS.
