Airtag won't reset

I have 3 air tags, which were delivered to me in July 2021.


For some reason they all dropped their connection to my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I removed these airtags from Find Me with the intension of resetting them and then re-adding them via Find Me.


I have followed the AirTag reset instructions, however no matter how many times I take the battery out and put it back in again (i've tried dozens of times), the 5th chime that indicates a reset does not play, it's just the same chime every time.


This happens on all 3 Airtags.


I am now no longer able to add my AirTags to my iPhone. I have also tried this on another 2 iPhones I have and this didn't work either.

We see that you may have already visited How to reset your AirTag; did you follow the step at the top to remove these tags from your Apple ID first?: "An AirTag can be associated with one Apple ID. If you want to use an AirTag that someone else has used, they need to remove the AirTag from their Apple ID first. If the previous user removed the AirTag from their Apple ID but they were out of Bluetooth range of the AirTag, then you need to reset it before you can use it with your devices."
