gestures not working after waking

M1 Macbook Pro - if I've had the lid closed for a while, and open it, it takes a considerable amount of time before trackpad gestures start working. I haven't timed it, but I'm thinking 10-20 seconds or so. This just started happening a couple weeks ago. It's very annoying when I'm using it on location, and closing it to save battery, and then I'm unable to scroll or use the 4-finger-upswipe to switch apps.

Hi stetson628,

Thanks for taking the time to post in the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're unable to use Multi-Touch gestures after waking your Mac, so we'd like to see how we can help. If you haven't done so already, restart your Mac. Sometimes this simple step can fix minor issues. If you've already restarted, or if that step doesn't help, test the issue in safe mode: Start up your Mac in safe mode. This will start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening, which could help narrow down the cause of issue. If you don't notice the behavior in safe mode, restart your Mac normally. If you start to notice the issue again, check your login items and follow the steps in this article: Remove login items to resolve startup problems on your Mac. Although the name of the article doesn't reflect the exact issue, those steps can help with what you're experiencing. Make sure you take note of the login items before removing them, that way you know exactly which ones to add again.

If you need more help, reply to this message.

Cheers!
