Plug-in the SD card adapter without any SD cards inserted. Then insert an SD card, it should mount like any normal external disk. Don't forget to eject / unmount the SD card when you are finished using it before you pull the SD card from the SD card adapter. Most SD cards are meant to use the FAT32 file system so you should format them with the Disk Utility if you wish to reset an existing card, erase all the data, etc.


SD cards do have a shorter lifespan than USB Flash or SSD drives. They have a limited set of writes. However, they tend to last a long time regardless. Just keep in mind that they don't last forever and will eventually fail.
