WhatsApp security concerns

There has been malware spread through WhatsApp, but if you keep it updated you are pretty safe, as Facebook does a good job of updating whenever new vulnerabilities are reported. Cybersecurity isn’t a wall that you build that will keep everything out forever; it is a never-ending arms race (or, probably more accurately, whack-a-mole).
