Printer drivers from Catalina on Big Sur

Hi, i have Brother printer with MacBook Air (M1) and Big Sur OS, but printer works only with Brother app and i cant print directly from Word or Excel. Brother support know that problem and they are trying to make working drivers for Big Sur (M1 processor) but i cant wait. Can you tell me can i instal drivers for Catalina OS on my Big Sur OS?

Okay, i got answer from local Brother support. If you have this problem all you have to do is to write to their support an e-mail and ask for drivers and instruction. They will send you 2 files, one driver (Brother_PrinterDrivers_Inkjet19_101) and .MP4 instruction

Instruction:

  1. Download and install this driver
  2. You have to print test page - just press on printer wifi button and white one (mono scan), then go to „Add printer” in options, click „+” and then click on the second icon (web) and in „Address” you have to write <Node name> from test page, in protocol choose „HP Jetdirect - Socket” and in „Use” click „Select software” and choose Brother DCP-T420W CUPS. And thats all, you should be able to print directly from Word, Excel etc. without this weird Brother app.

Hi,

Some Brother printers have been reported to work with Catalina drivers even under Big Sur. However, that would have to be tested on a case by case basis. Any information about the exact printer model? How is it connected?

Also, before carrying out any experiments, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files (documents, photos, et cetera). Software conflicts cannot be ruled out. Data may be lost.

Thank you.

A specific DCP-T425W macOS 10.15 printer driver does not appear to be available either (the same reference to iPrint&Scan).

https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=eu_ot&lang=en&prod=dcpt425w_eu_cn&os=10060

If necessary, you could perhaps check whether a driver for another model possibly would work (for example, the DCP-T300, DCP-T500W, and DCP-T700W all seem to use a version 1.6.0 printer driver for Catalina).

Please let us know what you find out.

Thanks Jan.

Printer model - DCP-T425W.

Its connected by wifi but i can also use it by USB.

I also talked with local Brother support and one guy told me that there is one way to make it work, he will send me proper driver and instruction so i think i’m gonna wait for it and if it wont work i will try with drivers for Catalina OS.

And of course i will have backup. ;)
